午前―英語 午後―カンバセーションクラブ中止、よってフリー
午前は英語の授業。特別変わったことはなく普通の授業だった。そして午後はカンバセーションクラブが予定されていたが中止になった。突然ヒマになっ て困っていた。そしてここぞとばかりに14日の日記でわかるとおり、倉品祐也(20)がウエスト・エドモントン・モール(以下ＷＥＭ)でスケートをしたい と非常にうるさい。仕方ないからユウヤとシンタロウの３人でスケートをしに行くことにした。ＷＥＭのスケート場はモールの中心の交差点に位置するため、１ 階と２階の数１００人の通行人に滑りっぷりを見られることになる。値段は使用料５jと貸し靴３jの計８j。この値段で１日中滑ることができ、途中で買い物 に出るなどのことも可能なので、決して高くはないと思う。スケートは３人ともほとんど未経験だったが、ローラーブレードをやったことがあるユウヤはその経 験と柔軟な筋肉、華麗な身のこなし、さらに神より授かった類稀なる運動神経を生かし、チョットだけ滑ることができた。スケート場で滑り始めるとシンタロウ の残念な滑りを見て近くにいた少年少女が大爆笑。彼らの名は14歳のポール、11歳のサマンサ、そしてちょっと口のでかい12歳のアシュレイだった。カナ ダ人は子供でもスケートがうまい。そんなこんなで結局この子らにスケートを教えてもらうことになった。数分後ユウヤが壁にぶつかった衝撃で携帯電話が壊れ 少し落ち込む。しばらくするとポールがなにやら５jがどうのこうの言い始める。１時間くらい滑り、３人ともうまくなる。そして２時間ほど滑り、そろそろ終 了。スケート靴がなかなか脱ぎづらくて大変だった。そのときアシュレイは自分のスケート靴が脱げないのがそんなに面白いのか大きな口を全開にして１人で大 爆笑していた。これから少し店を見てまわろうかと思ったらポールがついてくる。そして彼の口から出た言葉は「２jくれ！｣。さっきの５jがどうとか言って たのはこのことだった。まあ、５jから２jに安くなったこと、日本人はけちだと思われてはならないことを考え、くれてやった。その後、僕らがショッピング に行くといったらポールは「何を買うんだい？」と聞いてくる。「何も買わないけどいろいろ店を見て回る。」と言ったら不思議そうな顔をしている｡どうやら 何もかう予定が無いのに歩き回るというのが彼にはどうも納得いかないようだ。結局ユウヤのスケボーを見に行くことになった。スケボーを売ってる店までポー ルに案内してもらったのだが、彼はフロント、通行人、店員など目に付いた人にどんどん道を尋ねる｡尋ねられたほうもそれに答える｡このとき日本人とカナダ 人の文化の違いを知った｡そして帰りはすでに知っているバス停をポールに案内され、さらに１j払って家路に着いた。授業以外でカナダ人の子供と接すること が出来たのでいい経験になったと思う｡

Although I had the pole guided to the store which sells the skateboard, he asks a way rapidly to the person who took the side of eyes, such as a guide, a passerby, and a salesclerk. The asked way also replies to it. At this time, the difference in the culture of Japanese people and Canadians was known. And return was guided at the pole, paid the already known bus stop of 1 more dollar, and arrived at way home. It is except a lesson, and since the Canadian child was touched, I think that it became a good experience.
カナダ人はフレンドリー。一緒にスケートをした子たちはまったく知らない人に「この人たちは日本人であんまりスケートはしたことがないらしいよ！」 みたいなことを話し掛けていた。バスの中でも僕たちがどこのバス停で降りればいいか分からず、他のバスの乗客に尋ねると、バス停を親切に教えてくれ、さら に地図を広げ道順や次に乗り換えるバスなども詳しく教えてくれた。こういうとこは日本人も見習うべきだと思う。
カナダの子供たちと遊ぶという貴重な経験ができた。今後カナダ研修に参加する人にはとにかく暇なときにはなにかしら行動をし、現地の人とコミュニケーションをとってみるということを勧める。
