Teaching Experience

  • 2000 to Present:    Professor, Niigata University of International and Information Studies, Niigata, Japan.

    Academic Coordinator for the Communicative English Program (CEP). Duties include all areas of administration and program management. Responsible for hiring and training non-tenured EFL teachers, organizing staff meetings, teaching EFL classes, and conducting graduation seminars on Oral History, Peace Studies as well as Cross-cultural Awareness. Responsible for maintaining and constantly innovating the curriculum design and materials development within CEP.  Regularly serve on a variety University committees with Japanese faculty and operating entirely in the Japanese language. Have participated for several years in all aspects of the creation and grading of the English component of university entrance examinations. Other accomplishments include designing the Communicative English Program, setting up and maintaining the American Overseas Program with Northwest Missouri State University and developing a project in which NUIS to provide student interpreter/guides at Niigata Station during the 2002 World Cup Games. 
     

 

  • 1997 to 2000:    Assistant Professor, Nagaoka National College of Technology, Nagaoka, Japan.

    Developed a 30 million word corpus for the English Department. Created an English for Academic Purposes Course based upon a Lexical, Data-Driven Approach. Designed and managed a school-wide English oral testing program. Responsibilities included managing and scheduling classes for the part-time foreign lecturers, creating and grading departmental transfer English entrance examinations and supervising the school's annual English speech contest.
