Information Systems Department Education
In the Information Systems Department, students learn about how to use information in ways that benefit life, society, people, and business. They also study information technology that can contribute to local society. They acquire IT knowledge about computers, networks and such in their first and second years and learn how to apply that knowledge to social living and business management. There are four major fields available to students, and they are focused on either creating or using information systems. In the fall term of the second year, students choose majors, and in their third and fourth years, they improve their specialized knowledge and skills in the field that they chose.
■Small Class Sizes
Students can cultivate their individuality and solidify their knowledge in small, lecture-style courses.
■Competence-based Practice Courses
Information processing practice courses that correspond to students’ ability levels and goals are available from the first year on. Students may take these practice courses for all four years to commit desired knowledge and proficiency to memory and fulfill their hopes for the future.
■English Education
We offer competence-based language laboratory courses that nurture speaking and listening proficiency using computerized materials and courses for the TOEIC examination in addition to mandatory English classes.
■Internships
Internships are available for finding out how information systems are used in private enterprise or in organizations, offices and the like, and for motivating students to engage in further study or research.
■Overseas Training
Overseas training occurs at the University of Alberta for about five weeks for second- and third-year students who wish to participate in it. Students can learn real, live English and about the cutting edge of the information industry.
■International-Standard Information Education Program
The JABEE (Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering) Program certifies technical levels according to international standards. There is a system that certifies JABEE Program graduates.
